Winter is here
It's official Winter has arrived in Alaska. Fall was brief barely a few weeks. The winds have kicked up and the rain is coming down in sheets here in Ketchikan, meanwhile up north they've had several snow storms, chains are on the tires, and most places have their towns back now that tourist season is through. Yesterday on a medevac we stopped in Juneau and Haines both of which have quite a bit of color change. The wildlife is also out in full force. In Haines, in the alley between the clinic and the neighboring building we spotted a momma moose and her calf. In Anchorage, leaving Providence Hospital two moose we're within arms length of the car along the driveway of the hospital. I made and threw my first snowball of Winter 2008 yesterday from one of the many snowpiles that litered Anchorage International Airport.

Bears out at Connelly Lake
A few quick pictures on my crappy digital taken this morning on my drive out to Connelly Lake. Momma black bear and two cubs, run up a tree by what I can only assume are a couple of gawking tourists. They were still sitting parked in their vehicle staring when I drove back out 45 minutes later. No wonder bears attack! I'd be pissed too, sitting in a tree for an hour waiting on stupid humans to leave.

Home
I'm back in Ketchikan. If I didn't get a chance to see you when I was home in Ohio, don't worry I'll be back. Can't stay away for too long or my mother my track me down and drag me back kicking and screaming. I'll be back in town for Thanksgiving for now it's back to work and living on island time.

Book deal!
While here at home, I was reading one of my mom's Creating Keepsakes Magazine which mentions Blurb.com. Blurb.com is a website which can be utilized to turn just about anything into a book, including my blog! How cool is that? I'm currently editing and formating into book form. Blurb.com prints and distributes your book to just about anywhere in the world. Stay tuned for more details.

Apples, Apples, Apples
Day trip to Amish Country included a trip to Hillcrest Orchards in Walnut Creek, Ohio. Watch as they turn bushels of apples into fresh unpasterized cider (the worms add protein and flavor!) Cider is fantastic as are the organic apples.
